Play 4 the Cure
The Play 4 the Cure movement was created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director, and head coach Tina Reinprecht. Tina's longtime desire was to create an annual indoor field hockey benefit tournament for breast cancer research. A tournament home was found for the event at the
Sportsplex in Feastervile, PA in 2006. The benefit is dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx FH Club who fought the fight against breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness is the beneficiary of our event and in the first two years we contributed over $11,000.00 towards the Philadelphia Affiliate of the SGK for the Cure.
During the inaugural tournament the number of individuals who approached our volunteers and relayed a personal story of how breast cancer impacted a friend or loved one was astounding. And just as far reaching as the disease of breast cancer is, we hope that our efforts impact the funding of scientific research that will find the cure that extincts this disease in our lifetime. Without a doubt great strides have been made in treating this disease but the fight is not over. Remember, the fight is not over.
The month of October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month of the National Susan G. Komen Foundation. And in the world of field hockey in our country, October is the height of field hockey season. It is therefore appropriate that the Play 4 the Cure expand its movement and declare within the field hockey community that
October is Play 4 the Cure month as well.
We donate to the American Cancer Society as well! Cancer knows no bounds and neither do we in our efforts to "play Pink" and make a difference.
There is a saying that the best job in the world is in doing what you love for a living. What may even surpass that fulfillment is when that same passion for the work we love drives us in a worthy cause and in a giving direction.
Join us where you can.. as a player, a coach, a team, a club, a donor, a sponsor, or as a volunteer as we continue to unite the fight against this disease with the same fire we carry on the court or field when we play our favorite sport. Contact one of our chairpersons on the contact page to ask where you can help or how to become a part of Play 4 the Cure.
Make a Difference. Play Pink.
